The Viral Puzzle That Fooled The Internet: How Tall Is The Dog?*

Posted on September 5, 2026September 5, 2026 by admin

The internet loves a good brain teaser, and this one went viral for a simple reason — it looks easy, but makes you think twice.

The image shows two pictures of the same dog and two identical pillars.
In the first picture, the pillar is 200 cm tall and the dog is sitting beside it.
In the second picture, the same dog is sitting on top of the same pillar, and now the total height to the top of the dog’s head is 300 cm.

At first glance people guess 100 cm, 150 cm, or even 200 cm. But the trick is in comparing both images together.

Let’s assume:

– Height of pillar = P

– Height of dog = D

From picture 1: The pillar is 200 cm taller than the dog → `P – D = 200`
From picture 2: The pillar plus the dog = 300 cm → `P + D = 300`

If we add both equations:
`2P = 500` → `P = 250 cm`
Then, `250 + D = 300` → `D = 50 cm`

*So the dog is 50 cm tall, and the pillar is 250 cm tall.*

This puzzle went viral because it tests basic logic, not math. It reminds us that sometimes the answer is right in front of us — we just need to look at the problem from both sides.

It’s the kind of puzzle parents share in WhatsApp groups, teachers use in class, and friends send to challenge each other. Simple, cute, and surprisingly satisfying when you get it right.
