A picture is going viral on Facebook and WhatsApp. It shows 5 girls riding bicycles on a path, with text on top that says “SQUINT YOUR EYES WHAT NUMBER DO YOU SEE?”
Many people are confused – where is the number?
What is this illusion?
This is called a *Hybrid Optical Illusion*. In this technique, two images are hidden inside one image.
1. *A sharp, high-frequency image:* This is what you see normally – the girls, the bicycles, the green field.
2. *A blurry, low-contrast image:* This is where the number is hidden. It is made with very large and light shadows.
When you look normally, your brain gives importance to the sharp image. But when you squint your eyes, move your phone far away, or lower the brightness, the sharp details disappear and only the blurry large image remains – the number.
What is the number in this picture?
In this bicycle version, most people first see *528* in the middle.
If you squint harder and look more carefully, it becomes *45283*.
And the complete version of this famous illusion is *3452839*. The 3 and 9 at the start and end are kept at such low contrast that only people with very sharp contrast vision can see them. That’s why everyone reports a different number and argues in the comments.
Does it test your eyesight?

Easy trick to see the number
1. Lower your mobile brightness to minimum.
2. Squint your eyes to half-closed and look at the picture.
3. Move your phone one arm’s length away from your face.
4. Don’t focus on the bicycles. Focus on the green field behind them and the empty space between the girls.
You will see the number emerging like a faint shadow.
