We’ve all heard stories about awkward phone calls. But this one takes the cake.
A woman was spending time with her lover. The only twist? Her lover was also her husband’s best friend.
After hours together, they were lying in bed when the phone rang. Since it was her house, she picked it up.
The best friend sat there, listening quietly to just her side:
“Hello? Oh hi… I’m so glad you called… Really? That’s wonderful… I’m so happy you’re having such a great time… That sounds terrific… Love you too. Bye-bye!”
He looked at her, confused.
“Who was that?” he asked.
She smiled and said:
*“Oh, that was my husband. He’s calling to tell me about the amazing fishing trip he’s having… with you.”*
Cue instant panic.
The joke works because it flips everything in the last line. The husband thinks he’s on a fishing trip with his best friend, while the best friend is actually… not fishing at all.
It’s a classic example of dark humor and dramatic irony — we know something the characters don’t, until the very end.
