The film follows a group of people who are brought together in a Los Angeles comedy club after a controversial comic, played by Andre Hyland, goes viral for a racially insensitive joke. The group includes the comic’s girlfriend, played by Aya Cash, a Black comedian played by George Basil, and an Asian comedian played by Anna Konkle.
Other members of the cast include William Jackson Harper, Josh Fadem, and James Urbaniak, among others. The film explores themes of race, identity, and belonging in a divided America.
Despite its controversial subject matter, the film has been praised for its humor and sensitivity in tackling difficult issues. The performances of the cast members have also been singled out for praise, particularly those of Aya Cash and George Basil.
“You People” was produced by Chris Weitz and Andrew Miano of Depth of Field Productions, along with Melissa Coolidge and Joshua Ravetch. The film has not yet been released for wide distribution, but it is expected to premiere at several film festivals in the coming months.
